Dr. Mingma Thundu Sherpa from Ribdi Bhareng, West Sikkim, son of Shri Ringee Sherpa and Mrs. Nim Lhamu Sherpa, is the Assistant Professor and Head, Microbiology Department, Nor Bahadur Bhandari Degree College, Tadong. He is the first eminent PhD scholar to work in Glaciers of Sikkim with relation to Climate Change from microbiological perspectives. 

He is also a DBT MK-BHAN Young Research Fellow, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development, an autonomous Institute, Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, Imphal, Manipur, India prior to join Tadong College.

He extensively worked on the very significant and important glaciers of Sikkim viz. Kanchen Gayao, Chumbu, Changme Khang and Changme Khangpu glacier. Dr. Mingma, has published in many renowned international journals with high impact factors like Indian Journal of Microbiology, International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, Environment Sustainability, Wiley publications and others. His work on accumulation zone of the glaciers is very first of its kind and the microbiology research is the benchmark data for the State of Sikkim.

To acknowledge his works DSA took the opportunity to felicitates him on 9th March 2020 at Agamlok, East Sikkim in the annual Losar Fest.
