Weightlifter Pemba Tshering Sherpa who won the lone medal for Sikkim in the Khelo India Youth Games at Guwhati on 20th January 2020. Sherpa, the sole weightlifter from Sikkim in the Games, had won a bronze medal in the 81 kg weight category in an otherwise dismal performance for Sikkim. Sikkim finished at the bottom of the table among the medal winners.
Thirteen athletes had participated in the country’s biggest sporting festival. He overcame a number of weightlifters from across the country to secure a medal for Sikkim.
The Denzong Sherpa Association, recognising his exceptional talents and proudly honors him on 9th March 2020 at Agamlok in the annual Losar Fest.
